Are your systems patched?
Has your MSP (Managed Service Provider) patched your systems yet?
Make sure your systems are patched! The white house warns of active threat over a series of “newly discovered cyber intrusions”. Microsoft says they are linked to attackers called “Hafnium” operating out of China. In the past, this hacker group went after “infectious disease researches, law firms, higher education institutions, defense contractors, policy think tanks and NGOs”.
Microsoft is urging their customers to immediately update their systems to patch or fix the four different vulnerabilities that were found (CVE-2021-26855, CVE-2021-26857, CVE-2021-26858 and CVE-2021-27065).
The company wrote a blog post stating that these four vulnerabilities in its software allowed hackers to access servers for Microsoft Exchange. Once an organization is compromised, these hackers use their unauthorized access to go through email accounts. They were able to download data such as address books to gain access to its user account database.
Having a MSP patch management is so IMPORTANT in the event an active threat like this happens.
Patching not only secures your systems and applications, but it also makes them run smoothly. Leaving your systems unpatched make them vulnerable to cyberattacks and active threats.
According to the Ponemon Institute, the majority of data breaches (57%) can be directly attributed to attackers exploiting a known vulnerability that has poor patch management.
